BOTH IN EUROPE AND IN ASIA, RAIL TRANSPORT IS MOVING FAST TOWARD THE FUTURE, UNDER A RIVERCLACK ROOF
November 2015
Riverclack ® roofing system will take part to Europe’s largest infrastructure project: London Crossrail: a huge transformation on London’s rail transport that will increase its capacity by 10%, support regeneration and dramatically cut journey times across the city. Thirty-eight Crossrail stations will be built, including nine new underground stations.
CA Group’s Rivertherm® roofing system (from Riverclack ® roofing system) has been chosen as the building envelope on Crossrail’s Old Oak Common Depot, a custom-built 24,000sqm depot maintenance facilities that will house Crossrail rolling stock, as well as other, smaller ancillary buildings. The existing Old Oak Common Depot, which occupies a large site in an industrial area of west London used as a maintenance facility since the beginning of last century, will be fully demolished and dismantled before the commencement of work on the new development, designed by architects Mott MacDonald and RPS Planning & Development.
In the meanwhile, in Turkey, the construction of a new railway station is underway. The new Ankara High Speed Railway Station, built for the high-speed trains going from Ankara to Istanbul, is part of a complex project aiming to reduce the huge traffic of private cars in favor of public transport. The 533km / 331mls journey will be covered in about 3 ¾ to 4 hours, thus challenging the traditional monopoly held by airlines on rapid transport between Turkey's two largest cities.
The system chosen to cover the 25,500sqm roof of the station is Riverclack ® 550, aluminum pre-painted RAL9006 PVDF.
