RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS CENTER LUZHNIKI: ELEGANCE OF WAVES
September 2017
Directly within the Luzhniki Olympic Complex in the Russian capital Moscow, an incredible new building is under construction: the Rhythmic Gymnastics Centre.
Its unique design is based on a concept that embodies form and application. The solution is an unusual structure characterized by a wavy roof resembling a gymnastic ribbon.
The Centre will host rhythmic gymnastics competitions as well as training, cultural and recreational activities. The Centre will also include areas for media, VIP rooms, a hotel for 115 athletes, a medical rehabilitation centre and other rooms for operational services.
This structure will host up to 250 athletes and 4,000 spectators during competitions and 2,500 visitors during cultural events.
The major challenge for ISCOM S.p.A. relates the complex way in which the entire wavy roof package is assembled: silhouette, tapered double-curved panels are combined with straight panels .
Altogether, a total of15,200 m2 will be covered using Riverclack® 550 mill-finish aluminium panels (0.8 mm thickness) as the main standing seam system plus decorative panels. Additional solutions like fall-arrest, snow guards, walkways, lighting protection and skylights are included. The Riverclalck®550 patented design panels, including their unique drainage channels, guarantees that the system is waterproof, even when completely submerged in water, without any risk of leakage into the building; this is an appropriate solution when weather conditions are at their most adverse.
Due to the considerable length of the panels, profiling and curving stages will take place directly on-site.
